Iowa Deer Hunting Trips

The state of Iowa whitetail deer hunting is the best trophy hunting in the world. Iowa deer hunting is world class due in part to superb whitetail genetics, hunting seasons that allow many bucks to reach maturity, and its serious protein rich agricultural witch is a perfect recipe for giant monster bucks. Iowa is home to the largest ever buck killed by a hunter in the world. On September 29th, 2003 an Iowa teenager named Tony Lovstuen harvested a 38 point monster scoring 307 inches with a muzzleloader in Monroe county zone 5. The buck which was panel scored by the Boone & Crockett Club, is officially the largest whitetail buck ever harvested any where in the world. Iowa has 14 of the Pope & Young Clubs top 50 typical bucks of all time, as well as 8 of the P&Y top 50 non-typicals of all time. At last count, Iowa also has 8 of the top 50 Boone & Crockett typicals of all time and 5 of the top 50 B&C non-typicals of all time.

The scoring system used in Iowa record bucks are higher than other Midwest states most are 140 but Iowa gun is 150 minimum typical and 170 minimum for non-typical.

Iowa has timed the gun season to take place after the rut, which makes the bucks less vulnerable and gives them more time to mature.
